The loss of a celebrity one actually admires is a difficult event to grapple. On the one hand, life is temporary and celebrity is a bizarre concept in its own right. On the other, worthwhile role-models are few and far between. For all the happy, fan-pleasing camp Star Trek engendered, Nimoy’s sincere curiosity about life and reality are what come to my mind first as I learn of his passing.
As somber and rigidly logical as his most celebrated role was, I find it interesting that the phrase he made famous invites a fulfilling life, rather than resignation to the inevitable. I hope the curiosity with which he approached life and reality is being satisfied today.
